The classic Plain White Tee shirt, the most underrated; yet most worn men's shirt of all time. The Plain White Tee is the core of every mans wardrobe, and in my opinion - always will be. From the crew neck, to the V-neck, and to the pocket, this shirt does it all.
These shirts are commonly paired with shorts, jeans, and chinos. However, it has started to become more of a trend to wear them with slacks and dress trousers, as well. This shirt is extremely useful. It can be worn on its own and/or as a layer to an outfit.
A common rule of thumb when pulling off the Plain White Tee shirt is to always have more than one of them; because lets be honest - white gets dirty fast, no matter how hard we try to keep them clean. Also, make sure that your Plain White Tee shirt fits you well. This is critical to pulling this shirt off, because if not, it is going to look unflattering.
However you choose to wear it is really up to you gentlemen. Just make sure that this shirt is apart of your wardrobe.
2. THE FITTED BLACK POLO:
I can be the first to admit, that this shirt has not always been one of my first choices. But after developing my own personal style, I have come to realize that the black polo is definitely one of the sexiest, cleanest, and softest shirts a man can put on.
The combinations are really endless when it comes to pairing this shirt. However, personally I find it works best with a great pair of dark colored jeans, slacks or chinos. Something to keep in mind when trying to pull this shirt off, is that it really stands out as an item on its own. In other words (in my opinion), it should not be layered like some of the other shirts that are on this list.
Gentlemen if you don't own one of these shirts: do yourself and all of the ladies out there a favor - go pick one up!
3. THE TAILORED WHITE OXFORD:
It is time to introduce the king of all men's shirts - the tailored White Oxford. It is a staple in men's fashion and style; the options are endless and so is the changeability of this shirt. You can dress it up or down and it will look great. It works in every season and has lasted the test of time.
In terms of pairing the White Oxford, you really can’t go wrong with anything, including shorts or a tuxedo. However, I preferably like to pair this shirt with chinos or a nice pair of jeans.
Now with that being said, the key to wearing this shirt is to make sure it is tailored to your specific body type, so that it fits just right. Remember, the fit of the shirt is just as important as the style of shirt.
4. THE FITTED BLACK BUTTON UP:
If you're asking for my opinion, this shirt has no other way to say it than, "It makes me feel like a bad ass." The Black Button Up is one of those shirts that most men overlook because of its “shelf appearance,” meaning what it looks like on the rack or shelf.
Well that's all going to change right now gentlemen. Because this shirt is capable of a lot more than what it looks like. In fact if you’re in the mood to connect with your inner “James Bond,” this shirt is the way to go.
The Black Button Up is a multipurpose item. You will usually find it worn with jeans, chinos, or dark slacks. Nevertheless, feel free to layer this piece as a neutral color in an outfit.
This is an overall must have gentleman. I know a lot of you have overlooked this piece and/or most likely don't have one at all or have one that doesn't fit. Whatever the case is, get yourself a fitted Black Button Up – you can thank me later.
5. THE PATTERNED LIGHT BLUE DRESS SHIRT:
Modern meets Classic. There are some great selections of patterns out there for men to choose from but no shirt looks as chic and stylish than a nice Patterned Light Blue dress shirt. It has, in my opinion, evolved over time to become the perfect combination of classy and sexy. It has finally found its way into being a fundamental item of any man's wardrobe.
The Patterned Light Blue dress shirt is commonly worn with chinos, jeans, or slacks of any color. Yet, like the Black Button Up shirt, this shirt is a bit more particular because of its added professional nature. Hence I would avoid wearing this with shorts, and definitely would not wear it with an un-tucked or a casual look.
